As a professional performance coach, Susan Hobson knows a thing or two about inspiring her clients to be better at what they do and always strive for their best.
That’s why Hobson chose the iQ Shared Office Solutions Yonge Street building in downtown Toronto when she established her own permanent office two years ago.
“My practice has expanded and grown because of this location,” says Hobson, owner of Elite High Performance Coaching. “People who you’re doing business with associate value to your environment. When they see that their experience as a client is a premium, professional, seamless experience from start to finish, that sort of professionalism becomes associated with you and your business.”
Hobson describes herself as a “brain trainer,” a professionally trained coach who relies on neuroscience principles to help people improve their health, wealth, business performance and athletic skills. Previously employed by an integrative wellness clinic, Hobson took her clients’ advice in 2013 and opened a private practice.
Her first task: find an office in Toronto.
Key criteria on the checklist: ideal location, professional look and feel, top-notch corporate support and logistics, and a great experience for clients.
“A lot of my clients are downtown in the financial district, and from this location it’s easy for them to get to me on their lunch breaks,” she says. “The Yonge Street location is very accessible by train and well-located for highways. There’s a secretary at the front desk to greet clients, and a beautiful waiting room with coffee, TV and connectivity – great services for clients of private practitioners. Our office is gorgeous. The building is beautiful, and the staff is amazing. We’re here for life.”
Hobson shares an iQ office with naturopathic physician Dr. Meghan Walker, and in addition to meeting with their respective private clients, the two business partners also use the iQ lounge and meeting spaces for workshops, public events and educational sessions for other iQ tenants.
Her advice for independent business professionals considering where or how to set up an office?
“I think people have a hard time investing in themselves when it comes to getting an office,” she acknowledges. “For anybody who’s afraid to take that next step and invest in a shared office location, it’s important to realize that a premium location helps your business, because clients associate value with the environment you’re in. They see you as more professional as a result of your professional environment.”
